Essentially, Hatch is saying that universal health care would benefit so many Americans that it would make the Democrats very popular. So he’s against it.

Isn’t free market healthcare great?

WellPoint health insurance company, which has encouraged its employees to lobby against health care reform, is now cutting their benefits.

WellPoint’s CEO, Angela Braly, made nearly $10 million in 2008.

WellPoint illegally pressured California employees this summer to fight health care reform, according to Consumer Watchdog. “Regrettably, the congressional legislation, as currently passed by four of the five key committees in Congress, does not meet our definition of responsible and sustainable reform,” said the company’s Anthem Blue Cross unit in a company e-mail. The proposals would hurt the company by “causing tens of millions of Americans to lose their private coverage and end up in a government-run plan.”

A House investigation found that WellPoint also rewarded employees for finding ways to drop policyholders who developed expensive conditions — a practice known as rescission.

I wonder how people like Angela Braly sleep at night. I guess $10 million buys a lot of tranquilizers.

First Mark Sanford governor of South Carolina simply vanishes for a week, and then comes back to admit an affair with a married woman in Argentina…

This is so weird you just can’t make this stuff up.

Sheesh not even your northern liberal press even and they got the Emails, too.
This outdoes anything that ever happened in Minnesota. Not even Jesse the Body did anything this flamboyant while he was in office.  Sanford didn’t even leave a way for his staff to get a hold of him had there been an emergency. Gone over Father’s Day on top of everything else.

To be perfectly honest I couldn’t give a rat’s ass whom he pokes.  That is for his wife to clean him out on in divorce court.  As far as I am concerned that is for her to make whatever hay on she decides to.  But if the state of South Carolina lets him get away with simply vanishing for a week, completely out of touch, without forcing him out of office, then SC does a real sloppy job of running its affairs.  Conservative or liberal this guy is a sleaze bag, and no more deserves to retain his office than Elliot Spitzer did in New York.

Chickenhawk ‘journalist’ Michael Goldfarb used a murderer’s account in an attempt to smear and discredit Beauchamp

Back in 2007, a the New Republic published a series of articles by their ‘Baghdad diarist’, who wrote under the name Scott Thomas. These articles described some abominable and cruel behavior engaged in by American soldiers, including desecration of corpses and running over dogs for sport.

Predictably, conservative ‘journalists’ pounced, accusing the New Republic of fabricating sources and stories. Leading the pack was Michael Goldfarb, a columnist for the Weekly Standard who later served as deputy communications director for the McCain campaign. Goldfarb relied on questionable sources, including a former porn star and a guy who did some temp work at the New Republic. Later, Goldfarb relied on Beauchamp’s sergeant, John Hatley, who said that Beauchamp fabricated his stories.

Unfortunately for Goldfarb’s credibility, Hatley has since been convicted of executing four blindfolded and handcuffed Iraqis. So maybe he was lying when he said that soldiers in his unit never engaged in atrocities.

Here’s yet more evidence that conservatives just have more class than liberals:

Exhibit A: Laura Ingraham mocks Meghan McCain as being ‘plus-sized.’

Last night, Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) daughter, Meghan McCain, appeared on Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC show, where she continued to criticize Ann Coulter. On her radio show today, Laura Ingraham responded to McCain’s critique of far right conservatives, saying that she is “just another Valley Girl gone awry.” In a mocking faux-Valley Girl voice, Ingraham made fun of McCain’s body, joking that she didn’t get a “role in the Real World” because “they don’t like plus-sized models”.

Apparently, Meghan McCain’s sin was saying that both conservatives and liberals should reject the hatemongers at the extreme edges of their respective movements. McCain identified Ann Coulter as being one of the conservative hatemongers, an assessment that no reasonable person would disagree with. She didn’t identify a liberal hatemonger, but I nominate Ted Rall (link link link).

Every movement has its share of hatemongers. But recently, it seems as though the leading voices of the conservative movement either make a point of defending the hatemongers, or are themselves the hatemongers.

Exhibit B: Limbaugh Dubs Andrea Mitchell A “Butt Boy”

On MSNBC Wednesday, Andrea Mitchell agreed with Barney Frank that the press contributed to President Obama’s staffing difficulties with “gotcha” journalism.

Today, in response, Rush Limbaugh has labeled her a “butt boy” on his radio show.

So now agreeing with something that Barney Frank said makes a person a “butt boy.” Get it? Because Barney Frank is gay! Aren’t conservatives hilarious?

Only two out of the eleven confederate states will be celebrating the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birthday this year:

Yesterday we told you about the ways that folks across America are celebrating today’s 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. But not the South.

See, the South knew that there was something going on for February 12th … maybe a potluck at Arkansas’s place, or perhaps a Jeff Foxworthy HBO special? No, it was someone’s birthday or something … oh crap, Lincoln’s bicentennial!

So don’t plan on any big celebrations in Dixie. Of the 11 states that seceded during the Civil War, only Alabama and Louisiana have special efforts to recognize the day - and that’s not even saying much.

Note to Southerners:

The war is over. You lost. And you’re never getting your slaves back. It’s time to get over it.
