Can There Be A Non-Racist Explanation For This?

What’s up with Michelle Malkin running a chyron for a story about Michelle Obama that reads, “OUTRAGED LIBERALS: STOP PICKING ON OBAMA’S BABY MAMA”?
I mean, it’s to be expected that the White Supremacy Channel would hire people like Michelle Malkin, a woman so racist that she would deport herself in order to keep the brown people from taking over America (link link). And it comes as no surprise that Malkin could not hide her racism for long while covering the campaign of the first African-American to win a major party’s endorsement for president. But I never expected her to be so blatant about it.
As far as I know, Fox “News” has never referred to Hillary Clinton or either of John McCain’s wives as a “baby mama”. In fact, I don’t think they’ve ever run an onscreen graphic that referred to a white woman as a “baby mama”. So why do you think they decided to use this slang term, which is usually associated with hip-hop culture, for Michelle Obama? What is it about the Obamas, who are Harvard-trained lawyers poised to enter the White House next January, that makes Michelle Malkin and her colleagues at the White Supremacy Channel think of hip-hop slang? Hmm….

I know that some will attribute Fox’s attacks on the Obamas as being nothing more than political partisanship. But the evidence shows that it’s actually part of a broader war against ethnic minorities:

CNN had a big scoop this week: Michelle Obama likely target of conservative attacks. Duh, ya think?
We’ve already seen quite a few conservatives attacking Michelle Obama for her alleged racism. So far, most of these attacks have come from ardent racists, like this completely unsubstantiated attack from Nathan Morton. It’s no coincidence that Morton named his blog, Sic Semper Tyrannis, after the words shouted by John Wilkes Booth after he murdered Abraham Lincoln.
It’s already gotten so bad that the Obama campaign has had to devote an entire section of its website to answering smears and slanders against the Obamas. So CNN is a bit late with this report.

The racist attacks on the Obamas have certainly been discouraging. It makes one wonder if it’s possible for a black person to get elected president in America. People who think that Obama has no chance because of the prevalence of racism can be found throughout the political spectrum, ranging from strategist Mark Penn and talk show host Jon Eliot on the left to Shelby Steele and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the right.
But there’s also reason to take heart: there is mounting support for a boycott of companies that advertise on Fox “News” (Kraft, Proctor Gamble, Unilever, etc.), which would only be fitting since Fox analysts have encouraged boycott campaigns against a variety of targets, including TV personalities Rachel Ray and Rosie O’Donnell, and the entire nation of France.
More importantly, Obama has shown that his ideas and charisma draw more volunteers and more donors to his campaign than his ethnicity drives away. That helps not just Obama, but down ballot candidates as well. So while his ethnicity has hurt Obama’s campaign (just as McCain’s age and general assholishness have hurt McCain’s campaign), it appears that Obama’s message and policies will enable him to take the White House and help to ensure that the Democrats retain control over congress.
