John McSame’s mouth gets him in trouble again
John McCain doesn’t seem very proud of the country he wants to lead:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain admitted on Saturday it can be difficult at times to be proud of the United States.
“I’ll admit to you … that it’s tough in some respects,” McCain said when asked by a questioner at a town hall meeting how to be proud of the country.
“We have not always done things right and we mismanaged the war in Iraq very badly for nearly four years.”
Remember when Michelle Obama was overcome by emotion after her husband won the Wisconsin primary, and said “For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country, because it feels like hope is making a comeback”? Remember how the self-righteous hypocrites in the assholosphere attacked Obama for her alleged lack of patriotism? Here’s a refresher:

Hot Air: Michelle Obama hasn’t been proud of America in at least 26 years?
Newsbusters: Will Media Ignore Michelle Obama Remark?
My favorite from that group is the Newsbusters headline. The answer to their question turned out to be: “No, the media will not ignore Obama’s remark. In fact, they’re spend an absurd amount of time covering it. But they WILL ignore a very similar remark by John McCain.”
Predictably, Michelle Malkin was the most strident in her condemnations:
Dedicated to Michelle Obama: Do I make you proud?
It wasn’t just bloggers. The Boston Herald jumped on the story, editing Obama’s remark in order to make it sound worse. And of course, Fox News leaped at the opportunity to engage in some idiotic demagoguery:
.
Even Cindy McCain couldn’t resist a chance to attack Obama:
.
So why haven’t any of these people attacked John McCain for his lack of patriotism?
For the record, I think that it would be wrong to attack McCain for stating an obvious truth: sometimes, the United States does things that could only inspire shame in any decent American. McCain cites arrogance and a mismanaged war as reasons that he finds it hard to be proud. I would have gone with a policy of torture and a war of aggression that’s claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. Michelle Malkin would probably cite our failure to execute every Muslim and every Mexican in the country. But whatever your political perspective, you have to admit that Americans have collectively engaged in behavior that makes it hard to be proud.
However, if you’re going to condemn a woman who’s not even running for office for stating that fact, it seems only fair that you should also condemn a man who’s running for president of the United States when he says essentially the same thing. But don’t hold your breath waiting for the wingnuts to show some consistency.
