Malkin: Racism Ate My Brain

Michelle Malkin attempts to compose an argument that links Hispanics to the attacks of 9/11

Michelle Malkin produced a video rant in which she tries to tie the issue of illegal immigration to terrorism. The problem is, she gets completely turned around, and accidently delivers an argument for more legal immigration and amnesty for those living here illegally.

According to Malkin, two of the 9/11 hijackers obtained forged documents from a Guatemalan man who supplies forgeries to illegal immigrants. According to Malkin, the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon was the direct result of this act:

They paid the man $100. 184 Americans paid with their lives.

Set aside for a moment the ridiculousness of this claim. If Malkin wants to say that the attacks of 9/11 would have been prevented if people weren’t providing fake ID to illegal aliens, fine. But think about the implications of this argument.

Why are there so many people who will provide forged documents? Because there is a large demand for fake documents. If we allowed more Latin Americans to work legally in the US and granted residency to those already here, then there would be little demand for forged papers. Most of the forgers would be put out of business.

If Malkin wants to claim that a couple of forged documents made the difference between safety and death for 3,000 Americans, then she should face up to the fact that it’s our restrictive immigration policy that creates the market for those documents.

Of course, Malkin will never accept the idea that we ought to allow more legal immigration for Latin Americans. After hearing her latest rant, I can only conclude that it’s because her animosity toward Hispanics is stronger than her will to combat terrorism.

As far as I know, according to the news and some government releases, the hijackers came here with Tourist Visas, also with or without illegal aliens providing fake IDs they had in mind to do the terrorist attack, I mean, if they came from that far, spend a lot of money learning how to fly an airplane and prepare everything to bypass the security on the airport, then the fake ID thing was nothing for them. Why we have to blame illegal aliens for this terrorist attack? this is the way how Michelle Malkin caugh attention? she’s an immigrant too.. come on!

    Ricardo–

Malkin is really stretching with this one, but stretching to make a ridiculous point has been her trademark for more than a decade. When I lived in Seattle, she wrote a column for one of the local papers. I remember her writing about high school students cheating on an exam. She blamed Bill Clinton. Really.

As for being an immigrant, she was born and raised in the US. Her parents are immigrants.

The fact is, though, that racism is irrational, so you’ll often find poeple engaging in racism even when it doesn’t make any sense. I was talking to a friend, who had a lot of racist things to say about Mexicans. I pointed out that he was Hispanic. He got angry, and accused me of being racist because I wasn’t differentiating between Mexicans and Puerto Ricans.

I told him that my grandfather was Mexican, and that if we were going to remain friends, he’d have to stop thinking he was superior to me just because his grandfather lived a bit further east.
