Cheney and Gonzales indicted, Bush implicated

From the Houston Chronicle:
A South Texas grand jury has indicted Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on state charges related to the alleged abuse of prisoners in Willacy County’s federal detention centers.
The indictment, which had not yet been signed by the presiding judge, was one of seven released Tuesday in a county that has been a source of bizarre legal and political battles in recent years. Another of the indictments named a state senator on charges of profiting from his position.
Willacy County District Attorney Juan Angel Guerra himself had been under indictment for more than a year and half before a judge dismissed the indictments last month. This flurry of charges came in the twilight of Guerra’s tenure, which ends this year after nearly two decades in office. He lost convincingly in a Democratic primary in March.
Cheney’s indictment on a charge of engaging in an organized criminal activity criticizes the vice president’s investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers. It accuses Cheney of a conflict of interest and “at least misdemeanor assaults” on detainees because of his link to the prison companies. The indictment accuses Gonzales of using his position while in office to stop an investigation in 2006 into abuses at one of the privately-run prisons.
Also, former White House spokesman Scott McClellan says that Bush himself authorized Lewis Libby to expose undercover CIA agent Valerie Wilson:

Good coverage, Gordo. Now, in fair play, where is your coverage in your site’s archive about the long list of scandals and indictments and those considered above the law by the Democrat Party in the previous administration?
Other than that - it is what I have said for some time now - it is time to take a cold, hard and logical look at a third party, or better yet, independent; but at least far removed from the DNC and the GOP. It is time for American voters to search for and vote for statesmen and stateswomen who uphold the Constitution, make America and ALL of its citizens their priority, reform and limit government - and get America back on strong, but fair foreign policy. Give up the experiment of a American socialism and the ever-elusive Utopia that Karl Marx dreamed of.
Make America great once again - and teach our children to love it, not hate it. Teach our children to use logic, not emotion and accept the responsibility that comes with freedoms, like choice. No more victimization. No more politicizing when it is not an election. Statesmanship should return in the English language. No more support for uninvited immigrants. The immigrants laws were established for a reason - and it wasn’t bias or racism, it was the fact that our leadership must ensure there are jobs for them when they get here - and not cheat Americans out of jobs and wages that meet cost-of-living index, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
Have a meaningful and enjoyable Thanksgiving Day, Gordo.

Keith–
First of all, I wasn’t even blogging until Bush’s second term, so I don’t think it’s fair to ask why there’s no extensive file on Clinton officials who were indicted. Second, I’ve never pretended to be a newspaper. I just highlight stories and comment on the news from my own perspective, so it’s only natural that I focus more on scandals that involve Republicans. Third, I don’t know why you would even suggest that fairness dictates that I feature all of the prominent scandals involving Democrats when you feature so little coverage of the Republicans’ scandals. Fourth, I have featured coverage of a lot of stories that were embarrassing to Democrats, including the bribery charges against Rep. Jefferson, Hillary Clinton’s questionable donors, and Rep. Mollohan’s conflicts of interest.
Apparently, you think that the US is currently practicing Marxist economics. That’s absolutely ridiculous.
Well, you were against immigration back when our unemployment rates were at historic lows, so I think there’s more to your opposition than just a concern for job seekers.
Thanks for coming by, and I hope you also have a happy Thanksgiving.

Keith…lets be fair…Clinton’s scandals were aired continuously for 8 years, whereas the Bush administration has been protected by the mainstream media. You want to see scandals…go to http://www.netrootsmass.net/hughs-bush-scandals-list/ and see just how many Bush scandals there are. The list is up to 392 Bush scandals.

Scott McClellan still claims “Valerie Plaime” is just a CIA cover name.
Her real name is Jane Moneypenney.
