It’s a little late, but I just came across this video of the Chinese government’s 60th anniversary celebrations:

It’s amazing how well-coordinated a celebration can be when the penalty for screwing up is death by firing squad.

It is also amazing how poor their military equipment is. It is like everything they have was made in China. Oh, wait…it was. Okay then, that is why they have crap for equipment.

not anymore. Their basic military gear is only less than a decade behind. They are catching up quickly. If you remember, Japan built their naval and land power from scratch and challenge US in pacific in less than 5 decades. Russia was a bottom rank european monarchy in the 20’s and by late 50’s they were in space first and ha huge global influence.
And Imperial Japan, Soviet, Third Reich all were much smaller countries than US and yet they can climb the learning curve reaching parity and beyond in term of technology.
And china has much larger population while much of its history at the top of global economic output.
