A specific kind of counterparty agreement which allows the transfer of third party credit risk from one party to the other. One party in the swap is a lender and faces credit risk from a third party, and the counterparty in the credit default swap agrees to insure this risk in exchange of regular periodic payments (essentially an insurance premium). If the third party defaults,

To truly understand the type of Drug Rehab that is appropriate for individuals with a chronic drug addiction problem it is important to understand the mechanisms that are at work. Drug addiction could be defined as; a constant and unrelenting effort to obtain drugs in order to alter the feelings and perceptions of the person using them. Another facet of drug addiction is; the brain adapts to the presence of drugs and make adjustments accordingly. Because of these chemical changes in the brain due to the constant use of drugs, when a drug abuser attempts to halt their drug use the brain signals the individual that the drug is needed. This is a major cause of drug cravings. All drug abusers experience drug cravings for some period of time after ceasing drug use, that is a basic fact. This phenomenon will diminish over time as brain function returns to normal. Drug addiction typically involves habitual routines in the environmental scope of the individual i.e. the locations they use drugs, the people they hang out with, etc. In other words drug addiction is not just drug use, it also revolves around people and things in their immediate environment which help to reinforce the addictive behavior. The individual's proximity & routines therein are what help to hold their addiction in place. It is the constant negative activities of their day to day life that perpetuates the problem and inhibits the native desire to stop ruining their life through the use of drugs.

A History of Beer and Brewing

I. Hornsey, "A History of Beer and Brewing"
Royal Society of Chemistry | 2004 | ISBN: 0854046305 | 632 pages | PDF | 55,9 MB

A History of Beer and Brewing provides a comprehensive account of the history of beer. Research carried out during the last quarter of the 20th century has permitted us to re-think the way in which some ancient civilizations went about their beer production. There have also been some highly innovative technical developments, many of which have led to the sophistication and efficiency of 21st century brewing methodology. A History of Beer and Brewing covers a time-span of around eight thousand years and in doing so:·Stimulates the reader to consider how, and why, the first fermented beverages might have originated·Establishes some of the parameters that encompass the diverse range of alcoholic beverages assigned the generic name 'beer'·Considers the possible means of dissemination of early brewing technologies from their Near Eastern originsThe book is aimed at a wide readership particularly beer enthusiasts. However the use of original quotations and references associated with them should enable the serious scholar to delve into this subject in even greater depth.

Bainbridge Books | 2006-01-30 | ISBN: 1891696203 | 310 pages | PDF | 7,3 Mb

This book highlights the very successful and much diversified group of organisms, the insects, and deals with some interesting aspects of insect life, which are often ignored in entomology textbooks. There are chapters on ants making "slaves;" insect migrations; chemical defence strategies; parental care and love; AIDS and insects; killer bees; and intelligence. The book also includes first-hand experiences of the great traveler-naturalist Prof. P. Jolivet, who narrates the re-emergence of the 17-year-cycle cicada in the USA in May 2004; the occurrence of insects on the great tepuys of Venezuela; marching of army ants in the tropical Africa; and much more.

Ihr müsst euch stählen

[Play]

[Pause]

Grosser Jubel unterbricht ihn.

    Unsre Fahne flattert uns voran.
Unsre Fahne flattert uns voran.

Insects as Natural Enemies: A Practical Perspective
Publisher:Springer | 2005-08-05 | ISBN 1402017340 | Pages: 748 | PDF | 17 Mb

Over the past three decades there has been a dramatic increase in theoretical and practical studies on insect natural enemies. The appeal of insect predators, and parasitoids in particular, as research animals derives from the relative ease with which many species may be cultured and experimented with in the laboratory, the simple life cycles of most parasitoids, and the increasing demand for biological pest control.

There is now a massive literature on insect natural enemies, so there is a great need for a general text that the enquiring student or research worker can use in deciding on approaches and techniques that are appropriate to the study and evaluation of such insects. This book fulfils that demand. A considerably updated and expanded version of a previous best-seller, it is an account of major aspects of the biology of predators and parasitoids, punctuated with information and advice on which experiments or observations to conduct, and how to carry them out. Guidance is provided, where necessary, on the literature that may need to be consulted on particular topics.

While researchers can now refer to several books on parasitoids and predators, Insects as Natural Enemies is unique in emphasising practicalities. It is aimed at students and professional working in universities and both government and commercial institutes in the fields of pest management, agriculture, horticulture and forestry.

download

The Voyage of Mariner 10
NASA Scientific & Tech. Info. Office | 1978 | ISBN: B000C19QHA | 168 pages | PDF | 3,5 MB

The mission of Mariner 10 was unique in several ways. It was the first American spacecraft to take photographs of Venus. It was the first to use the gravity and motion of one planet to alter the flight path of a spacecraft and send it to another planet. It was the first to explore the planet Mercury, which was previously but a hazy image in the best Earth-based telescope pictures. The success of Mariner 10 in attaining&emdash;and exceeding&emdash;its goals is attributable to the dedicated effort of the relatively small but exceedingly competent and highly motivated group of men and women from universities, industry, and government who made up the Mariner Venus/ Mercury 1973 project team.

This book records the historical details of the Mariner 10 mission from its original concept to its ultimate success. It provides a selection of some of the images obtained by the spacecraft at both Venus and Mercury. A detailed Atlas of the Mercury images is being published separately by NASA. Mariner 10 reaped a bountiful harvest of new information about the inner planets of the solar system, information which combined with that from the exploration of other planets may provide us with an increasingly clear view of the origin of our solar system and possibly a clue to its destiny.

Soviet and Russian Lunar Exploration
Praxis | 2006-12-22 | ISBN: 0387218963 | 322 pages | PDF | 36,1 MB

When, in July 1969, the Americans decisively beat the Soviet Union in the race to put an astronaut on the moon, this event had profound historical, scientific and political implications. This book tells the story of the Soviet and Russian lunar programme, from its origins to the reconsideration of a lunar programme in the present-day federal Russian space programme. Following Sputnik, the first Soviet lunar flights achieved the key goals of hitting, circling and photographing the moon in 1959. The Soviet Union planned to achieve the biggest prize of them all –the first person to land on the moon – and built all the key spaceships required to do so, such as a lunar orbiter and lander. Brian Harvey describes the techniques devised by the USSR for lunar landing, from the LK lunar module to the LOK lunar orbiter and tested versions in Earth orbit. He asks whether these systems would have worked and, examining how well they were tested, concludes that they would have: the Soviet Union lost the moon race for political, not technical reasons. Designs for moon bases were even drawn up. In the end, the Soviet Union ran an impressive series of robotic missions from 1968 to 1976 to circle the moon, map the far side, conduct scientific observations from orbit, recover samples and rove over the surface. The scientific haul from these missions is surveyed: what was actually learned about the moon, its rocks and the lunar environment, that will be useful for the present plans by the United States to return to the moon and for other countries, such as India and China, to conduct their own lunar exploration.

The book opens in Surgut, Siberia, in August 1976, with a largely forgotten event: the return to Earth after a three-day journey from the moon, under a single parachute, of the tiny Luna 24 cabin, with a core sample drilled deep into the Sea of Crises, a remarkable scientific and engineering achievement. It ends with an examination of projected missions, from plans to explore the far side and set up lunar observatories to the Luna Glob explorer of the 1990s. There is also discussion of lunar tourism, using a modernized version of the Zond spacecraft which flew around the moon from1968 to 1970.

Springer | 2008-11-07 | ISBN: 3540692029 | 390 pages | PDF | 11.4 MB

By Martin J.L. Turner

* Publisher: Springer
* Number Of Pages: 390
* Publication Date: 2008-11-07
* ISBN-10 / ASIN: 3540692029
* ISBN-13 / EAN: 9783540692027
* Binding: Hardcover

The 3rd edition of this practical, hands-on book discusses the range of launch vehicles in use today throughout the world, and includes the very latest details of some of the advanced propulsion systems currently being developed. The author covers the fundamentals of the subject, from the basic principles of rocket propulsion and vehicle dynamics through the theory and practice of liquid and solid propellant motors, to new and future developments. The didactic value of the early chapters on the basics of rocket propulsion, by re-working the derivations and updating the examples will be enhanced.

The 3rd edition will stick to the same principle of providing a serious exposition of the principles and practice of rocket propulsion, but from the point of view of the user and enquirer who is not an engineering specialist. Most chapters will remain substantially the same as the second edition; they will be updated where necessary and errata corrected. In particular the new chapters added for the second edition, on Electric and Nuclear propulsion will remain substantially the same.

In addition to general revision, updating and the correction of errata on all chapters, this updated edition will detail a number of new developments in the field Chapter 3 on Liquid propellant rocket engines will have new sections on air breathing engines and on new engines and propellants for the human exploration program. Chapter 8 will now de-emphasize the SSTO concepts, not longer seen as promising, and include new sections on variable thrust engines, again for human exploration. Other new developments following the announcement and subsequent development of NASA’s new man-rated launcher, the ARES, and its Constellation vehicle set. Also covered will be sub-orbital space tourist vehicles and the new rocket engines, which have been developed for them. A new chapter on man-rated launchers and their important characteristics will detail this. New interest in Lunar exploration and the need to supply Lunar bases exposes the requirement for high efficiency engines for Lunar transportation and storage of high energy propellants like liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen. New engines designed for in-space transportation and Lunar landing and departure will be added to the relevant chapters.

Paolo Ulivi, David M. Harland "Robotic Exploration of the Solar System"
Praxis | 2007-10-23 | ISBN: 0387493263 | 600 pages | PDF | 15,6 MB

Paolo Ulivi and David Harland provide in Robotic Exploration of the Solar System a detailed history of unmanned missions of exploration of our Solar System. As in their previous book Lunar Exploration, the subject will be treated wherever possible from an engineering and scientific standpoint. Technical descriptions of the spacecraft, of their mission designs and of instrumentations will be provided. Scientific results will be discussed in considerable depth, together with details of mission management.

The book will be comprehensive, covering missions and results from the 1950s until the present day, and some of the latest missions and their results will appear in a popular science book for the first time. The authors will also cover many unflown missions, providing an indication of the ideas that proved to be unfulfilled at the time but which may still be proven and useful in the future.

Just like Lunar Exploration, this book will use sources only recently made available on the Soviet space program, in addition to some obscure and rarely used references on the European space program. Unflown European projects of the 1960s and 1970s, a subject never before treated, will also be covered.

100 Years of Relativity

Abhay Ashtekar,
World Scientific Publishing Company | 2006-04 | ISBN: 9812563946 | 510 pages | PDF | 5,6 MB

Thanks to Einstein's relativity theories, our notions of space and time underwent profound revisions about a 100 years ago. The resulting interplay between geometry and physics has dominated all of fundamental physics since then. This volume contains contributions from leading researchers, worldwide, who have thought deeply about the nature and consequences of this interplay. The articles take a long-range view of the subject and distill the most important advances in broad terms, making them easily accessible to non-specialists. The first part is devoted to a summary of how relativity theories were born (J Stachel). The second part discusses the most dramatic ramifications of general relativity, such as black holes (P Chrusciel and R Price), space-time singularities (H Nicolai and A Rendall), gravitational waves (P Laguna and P Saulson), the large scale structure of the cosmos (T Padmanabhan); experimental status of this theory (C Will) as well as its practical application to the GPS system (N Ashby). The last part looks beyond Einstein and provides glimpses into what is in store for us in the 21st century. Contributions here include summaries of radical changes in the notions of space and time that are emerging from quantum field theory in curved space-times (Ford), string theory (T Banks), loop quantum gravity (A Ashtekar), quantum cosmology (M Bojowald), discrete approaches (Dowker, Gambini and Pullin) and twistor theory (R Penrose).

The Amateur Astronomer, 12th Edition

Springer | 2005-10-11 | ISBN: 1852338784 | 293 pages | PDF | 8 MB

This 12th Edition of Sir Patrick Moore?s classic book has been completely revised in the light of changes in technology. Not only do these changes include commercially available astronomical telescopes and software, but also what we know and understand about the universe. There are many new photographs and illustrations. Writing in the easy-going style that made him famous as a writer and broadcaster, Sir Patrick introduced astronomy and amateur observing together, so that his reader gets an idea of what he is observing at the same time as how to observe. Almost half the book is Appendices. These are hugely comprehensive and provide hints and tips, as well as data for pretty well every aspect of amateur astronomy. This is probably the only book in which all this information is collected in one place.

Practical Fermentation Technology

By Brian McNeil, Linda Harvey

Publisher: Wiley
Number Of Pages: 402
Publication Date: 2008-04-04
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0470014342
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780470014349
Binding: Hardcover

A hands-on book which begins by setting the context;- defining ‘fermentation’ and the possible uses of fermenters, and setting the scope for the book. It then proceeds in a methodical manner to cover the equipment for research scale fermentation labs, the different types of fermenters available, their uses and modes of operation. Once the lab is equipped, the issues of fermentation media, preservation strains and strain improvement strategies are documented, along with the use of mathematical modelling as a method for prediction and control. Broader questions such as scale-up and scale down, process monitoring and data logging and acquisition are discussed before separate chapters on animal cell culture systems and plant cell culture systems. The final chapter documents the way forward for fermenters and how they can be used for non-manufacturing purposes. A glossary of terms at the back of the book (along with a subject index) will prove invaluable for quick reference.Edited by academic consultants who have years of experience in fermentation technology, each chapter is authored by experts from both industry and academia. Industry authors come from GSK (UK), DSM (Netherlands), Eli Lilly (USA) and Broadley James (UK-USA).

Executive Summary

Generation: Data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) show that September 2008 was 1.7 percent “below average consumption.” September 2007, in contrast, was the eighth warmest on record. Additionally, the Commerce Department reported that real gross domestic product decreased from the second quarter to the third quarter of 2008, and the manufacturing component of the Federal Reserve’s Industrial Production Index was down 4.8 percent compared to the September 2007 value. The relatively normal 2008 weather compared to the hot September 2007 and the decline in economic activity contributed to a September 2008 net generation level that was 5.2 percent lower than the previous year.

Most (55.7 percent) of the 12-month decline in September levels is attributable to the fall in natural gas-fired generation. Gas-fired generation totals in two States – Texas and Mississippi – accounted for over half of this decline. Coal-fired generation in September 2008 was 4.5 percent lower than it was in September 2007. Drops in coal-fired generation in Ohio and West Virginia accounted for 37.3 percent of this decline. Net generation from conventional hydroelectric sources, however, was 12.7 percent higher than it had been in September 2007. This increase is primarily attributable to rises in Washington and New York, although Missouri’s contribution was significant as easing drought conditions contributed to State-level generation that was 465.5 percent higher than it was in September 2007. Petroleum liquid-fired generation was 17.9 percent lower compared to a year ago, with its overall share of net generation continuing to shrink. As wind-powered generation has decreased in recent months, the September 2008 generation was total was 9.5 percent lower than it was in September 2007. The September-to-September decline in Texas accounted for 74.0 percent of the national fall for wind power.

THE SOLAR SOLUTION

Of all the energy sources available to us, the Sun is our largest source by far, dropping 970 trillion kWh worth of free energy on us every day. Enough solar energy strikes the United States each day to supply its needs for one and a half years. Put another way, the amount of solar energy the Earth receives every minute is greater than the amount of energy from fossil fuels the world uses in a year! 1 Nearly all energy forms on Earth come from the Sun, either directly or indirectly.
To begin with, all fossil fuels are the product of organic life - forms on Earth that drew their energy from the sun. Algae and plants harvested solar energy via photosynthesis, and after accumulating and being cooked for millennia, became the substances that we know today as oil, coal, gas, shales, tar sands, and so forth — what author Thom Hartmann has called the “ last hours of ancient sunlight. ”

Fundamentals of Space Biology: Research on Cells, Animals, and Plants in Space

Tai L. Chow, "Fundamentals of Space Biology"
Springer | 2006-07-12 | ISBN: 0387331131 | 376 pages | PDF | 7,9 MB

This book is intended as an overview at an undergraduate or early university level and describes the effects of spaceflight at cellular and organism levels. Past, current, and future research on the effects of gravity - or its absence - and ionizing radiation on the evolution, development, and function of living organisms is presented in layman's terms by researchers who have been active in this field. The purpose is to enlighten science and non-science readers to the benefits of space biology research for conducting basic and applied research to support human exploration of space and to take advantage of the space environment as a laboratory for scientific, technological, and commercial research.

The first chapters present an overview of the major focuses of space research in biology, as well as the history and the list of animals and plants that have flown in space to date. The following chapters describe the main results of space studies in gravitational biology, developmental biology, radiation biology, and biotechnology. A background is given in each chapter, so that a minimum of prior coursework in biology is necessary for full comprehension. Each chapter also includes perspectives for future research and a list of references.

    * Binding:   Hardcover

Written as a practical introduction to biogas plant design and operation, this book fills a huge gap by presenting a systematic guide to this emerging technology — information otherwise only available in poorly intelligible reports by US governmental and other official agencies. The author draws on teaching material from a university course as well as a wide variety of industrial biogas projects he has been involved with, thus combining didactical skill with real-life examples. Alongside biological and technical aspects of biogas generation, this timely work also looks at safety and legal aspects as well as environmental considerations.

Distillation Operation (H.Z.Kister)(1990)
By Henry Z. Kister

Publisher: McGraw-Hill Professional
Number Of Pages: 729
Publication Date: 1990-01-01
Sales Rank: 71480
ISBN / ASIN: 007034910X
EAN: 9780070349100

Book Deяваion:

There are many books that discuss distillation, but there is only one
that concentrates on giving readers practical guidelines for
operation, troubleshooting and control. This is that book. Its
contents revolves around over 300 actual case histories of
distillation problems that occurred in the past. Each problem and its
solution are briefly described, and the lessons learned are molded
into the practical guidelines that make up the book. Carefully
focused, the book shows you how over 90% of all column malfunctions
occurred in the past, how they were solved, and how to prevent them in
the future. Starting with column internals and their malfunctions, it
progresses to installation, commissioning, startup and normal
operation before surveying the auxiliary system and the column
automatic controls--how they should be, how they can go wrong, and how
you can repair them. This book offers the best available compendium of
Do's and Don'ts, good practices, and guidelines for trouble-free
design, operation and troubleshooting for inlets and outlets;
distributors; avoiding tray damage; installation; commissioning and
startup techniques; column flood and efficiency testing; pressure,
temperature and boilup control; and many more.

Review:

Good reference
I found this a very good reference on distillation, and a worthwhile
resource on the PE exam. It however, as expected, assumes you
understand interphase mass transfer and distillation theory.

Review:

A must for people in any phase of distillation field

This is the more complete book on practical aspects of distillation
and absorption. From design (together with the companion book
Distillation Design) to startup and troubleshoot. The last subject is
also covered by other books, relating to the subject himself, but on
distillation and absorption columns this is the only book not
out-of-print; note that it covers also mechanical aspects usually fund
only on Best Prectices by Engineering and Contracting Company.

most Useful Links for searching ebook

http://www.ebookee.com/
http://rapidlibrary.com/
http://www.4shared.com/
http://www.google.com/
http://www.torrentz.com/

-----------------

This is a short guide to search for digitized book on the web (http), not p2p or anywhere else.

In general all modern books that are available for ebook devices, has been scannned by on organization of another, or important technicals book should be available online one way or another. Most are available in .pdf or djvu format. the more recent the books the higher the digital quality. Big technical publication hosues (springer-verlag, McGraw-hill, prentice hall, Willey) all sell digital formats of their books.

widely posted subjects: computer science, medical students texbook, engineering, chemistry. Followed by core science and engineering items. Math, physics, main engineering branches. Books that are connected to undergraduate textbooks, industrial needs, common research references are commonly available. Another area are Do-it-yourself type (explosive, farming, garage mechanics/machinaries). Lastly are popular businessbooks and popular classical literature.

Software one would need: .rar, .pdf, sometimes .dvju or hjsplit (to combined non .rar split file)

general method to search:

- things you need: Book title, author, publisher, keywords

- Obtain most commonly used keywords, lingo, or general semantic in area you wish to find book in. Go to amazon.com find most popular books in the subject then extract "keywords" and summary listed in the page. This will help narrow google search a great deal. (Or you could simply list amazon.com book titles and search them one by one.)

- After keywords are found, one simply google for book titles. Enter: "book title" + ".rar" (common google hack trick to ask google to find any site that offer .rar files, the most common compression file for ebook.)

- scan the google pages patiently. You can skip same rapidshare "link addresses" they are just same link posted by different sites. go 3-4 pages. A lot fo time the first or second links have been snuffed. So you need to scan further down. (don't skip non english sites. Chinese & arabics usually contains different mirror links)

- If it is a large file that containes several parts of .rar components, make sure all the files parts are available before start downloading. (it's drag finding out after downloading 9 parts and 10th is dead). Also make sure you have the password.

- missing password. Simply google exact "file name". Most of the time you will find another site who post the same link + the password. (there aren't that many book psoters, almsot everybody uses the exact same 2 or 3 rapidshare links)

- typical order for searching: specialized ebook site, google, specialized rapidshare search, blogsearch engine and finally torrent search sites.

- bit torrent files usually is the main-source and master list of all posted rapidshare files. so when it's available in torrent, you know it has been digitized.

Example of what is typical of large collection
general books
http://www.mininova.org/det/1199605

Swarm Intelligence: Introduction and Applications

286 pages | Springer; 1 edition (October 1, 2008) | ISBN: 3540740880 | PDF | 8 Mb

The laws that govern the collective behavior of social insects, flocks of birds, or fish schools continue to mesmerize researchers. While individuals are rather unsophisticated, in cooperation they can solve complex tasks, a prime example being the ability of ant colonies to find shortest paths between their nests and food sources. Task-solving results from self-organization, which often evolves from simple means of communication, either directly or indirectly via changing the environment, the latter referred to as stigmergy. Scientists have applied these principles in new approaches, for example to optimization and the control of robots. Characteristics of the resulting systems include robustness and flexibility. This field of research is now referred to as swarm intelligence.

The contributing authors are among the top researchers in their domain. The book is intended to provide an overview of swarm intelligence to novices, and to offer researchers in the field an update on interesting recent developments. Introductory chapters deal with the biological foundations, optimization, swarm robotics, and applications in new-generation telecommunication networks, while the second part contains chapters on more specific topics of swarm intelligence research such as the evolution of robot behavior, the use of particle swarms for dynamic optimization, and organic computing.
